By the Samster
This is a "Platinum" line Emu model, which according to their packaging literature means: it is made in Australia, not China (in contrast with many of Emu's other models and competitors' models); it has genuine australian sheepskin uppers; it is made with genuine Australian shearling. I bought these because they were made in Australia using aussie sheep materials, while the various other brands (mainly Ugg) used less authentic material for the uppers and were made in China with the high defect rates and short life spans, based on myriad reviews, that chinese-made products so often exhibit. Aussie Dog seemed to have more robust materials and quality, but were made of pigskin uppers instead of sheepskin (less authentic, but a mixed blessing - longer lasting but heavier).
As a northeasterner, I initially thought Australian ugg boots were meant to be suitable for winter outdoor wear, but while shopping around learned they are meant for indoor, dry weather/terrain, or warm climate use. As I was also shopping for winter slippers, I noticed that prices for insulated or shearling slippers cost about the same as for these authentic Australian not-made-in-china ugg style boots. So I bought these as winter slippers that I could also use to take out the garbage, or run dry-weather out-of-the-house errands or short dog walks.
These are light and comfortable. They feel plush and comfy in bare feet, tight in medium weight socks, and best wearing thin dress socks. I bought a size 10 and almost always wear a size 9; the fit is perfect. The sheepskin uppers come with some degree of water resistant stuff on them. A smattering of light rain won't cause harm but don't get them wet. Sheepskin is lightweight, but apparently is more prone to holes due to wear & tear stresses or water damage, going "flat" and getting badly stained when wet, and requiring more care and maintenance in order to last a few years - more fussing than I'm accustomed to (I'm a guy). Also, if you wear socks, the more you walk, the more they continuously get pulled down - a known feature with shearling ugg boots - not a big deal, but mildly irksome since I prefer to wear socks.
These make good slippers during the cold weather (real northern cold, not Texas or NC cold :)), and are versatile enough for car drives or short walks in cold weather. I like and recommend them, but think they are less practical and functional than the thinsulate clogs and slippers I've had in the past.

EMU is by FAR the BEST winter sheep skin linned boot you can buy. They are far superior to those CHEAP made in China UGGS that everyone else wears. If you do your research you will want the quality of TRUE AUSTRALIAN made sheep skin boots.
NOTE: Be sure to get the one's labeled PLATINUM because I can not vouch for the others.

Note on getting a 1/2 size small is good advice. I'm not sure of the waterproof character, since I'm wearing mostly inside. The soles appear a bit less durable than desirble for extended outside wear in the elements. For a walk on a sidewalk, they will do well. They are making this winter a lot more bearable, though!
